This traineeship is designed for specialist areas of automotive mechanical. Areas include
Serviceperson
This traineeship involves the servicing of cooling; petrol fuel and diesel fuel injection systems; clutch assemblies; manual and automatic transmissions; braking systems; final drive assemblies and drivelines; and steering and suspension systems.
The vehicle servicing qualification offers excellent articulation into Vehicle tradesperson qualifications at Certificate III.
Air Conditioning
This traineeship involves fitting, installing, servicing and repairing of air-conditioning units on various types of vehicles such as cars, trucks and vans, tractors and other machinery.
These activities will include completing minor repairs to electrical circuits/systems, welding, soldering, thermal cutting and heating.
Underbody
This traineeship involves the inspection of vehicle systems and components and diagnostic procedures prior to the repair and servicing of vehicle braking systems, steering and suspension systems and repair of exhaust systems.
These activities will include carrying out of welding, soldering and thermal cutting and heating procedures.
Tyre fitting
This traineeship will apply to tyre fitting of passenger and light commercial industrial vehicles.
Duties will include inspection of tyres to determine preferred repair action, repairing tyres and tubes, selecting tyres and rims for particular vehicles and balancing of tyres and wheels.
