Understanding the Unfair Dismissal and Discrimination Laws

Next Training Course: To be advised
Cost: $125.40 (GST Incl – includes morning tea and notes)

This half-day course will clearly explain what your obligations are when it comes to terminating an employee – either for poor performance or due to a redundancy.  Case histories will be discussed to highlight the implications of getting it wrong.  Proper procedures will be explained in detail along with the process that the Act sets out should an employee lodge a claim against you.  Similar material will be covered in relation to the Anti Discrimination Act – which covers matters like sexual harassment and bullying – two growth areas causing increasing concern to many businesses.  Can you really afford not to be fully informed in this significant area of employment law?

Introduction to Workplace Health and Safety

Next Training Course: To be advised
Cost: $247.50 (GST Incl – includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea and notes)

This full-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to employer obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act.  The key requirement of the Act, ie the Duty of Care, is explained in some detail and case histories are examined to illustrate what is required and the implications of not meeting your obligations.  Other topics covered include record keeping requirements; notification obligations; risk assessment; material safety data sheets; penalties; powers of inspectors; hazardous substances; warning signs; personal protective equipment; vehicle hoists and much more.  The State government inspectors are becoming more active in policing the Act so don’t wait for the knock on the door before doing something positive.

Understanding State Awards

Next Training Course: To be advised
Cost: $247.50 (GST Incl – includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, notes and copy of Award)

This full-day course takes attendees right through one of our most common State awards (Engineering Award – State) and highlights provisions which are common to all State awards as well as specific provisions which can cause difficulties for payroll staff.  Calculation of termination pays (including accrued annual leave and long service leave) as well as taxation of these payments is covered as well as superannuation, overtime, salary sacrifice, notice requirements, record keeping (pay slips as well as time and wages records), the new long service leave provisions, grading criteria under the Clerical Awards, special family leave and much more.  It’s important to have your facts right in this area – ignorance is no defence.
